Patriots’ Wide Receiver Julian Edelman to Miss Entire 2017 Season
Philip Calhoun leverages over 18 years of experience as a production plant manager to oversee safety and lead manufacturing innovation projects, such as the development of vehicle personalization centers, as an executive vice president of Total Quality Engineering Inc. A former semi-professional football player in Canada, Philip Calhoun enjoys following the New England Patriots, which ties with the Dallas Cowboys as his favorite NFL team.
The Patriots have won two of the past three Super Bowls, victories to which Julian Edelman has contributed substantially. The 6-foot, 198-pound wide receiver (WR) recorded a combined 2,770 receiving yards in the past three regular seasons and 776 receiving yards in eight playoff games. However, if the team is going to win its third Super Bowl in four years, it will have to do so without Julian Edelman, who suffered an ACL tear in his right knee in a preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
The 32-year-old WR injured his knee on a non-contact play after making his third catch of the game and limped off the field. Shortly after the injury, the Patriots confirmed that he would be out for the duration of the 2017 season. His absence means that the team's offense will have to rely heavily on Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan, and recent acquisition Brandin Cooks.

Patriots Win ESPY for Best Game
With more than 25 years of industrial leadership experience, Philip Calhoun serves as executive vice president at Total Quality Engineering. Outside of his professional pursuits, Philip Calhoun enjoys watching one of his favorite National Football League (NFL) teams, the New England Patriots.
Led by quarterback Tom Brady, the Patriots won their fifth Super Bowl in 16 seasons in 2016 after beating the Atlanta Falcons. Even more impressive than the team's total number of championships is how New England rallied to win the Super Bowl in 2016. At one point in the game, the Patriots were behind by 25 points.
At the end of the third quarter, New England trailed 28-9, but the team scored a field goal and two touchdowns, including one with 57 seconds left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. Running back James White secured the come-from-behind victory with a two-yard score with 11:02 remaining in overtime.
The impressive comeback earned the Patriots the Best Game award at the 25th annual ESPY Awards, which were hosted by former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, a longtime rival of the Patriots.

New England Patriots Acquire Defensive End Kony Ealy
The executive vice president of Total Quality Engineering, Philip Calhoun previously served a variety of roles for Ford Motor Company at manufacturing plants throughout North America. A former semi-professional football player in Canada, Philip Calhoun counts the New England Patriots as one of his favorite National Football League (NFL) teams.
Despite winning the Super Bowl in February, the Patriots wasted little time in improving its roster for another championship run in 2017. Since the beginning of March, the team has acquired numerous high-profile players, including tight end Dwayne Allen, wide receiver Brandin Cooks, and cornerback Stephon Gilmore. One of the other prominent acquisitions was defensive end Kony Ealy, who the team received from the Carolina Panthers along with the Panthers’ third-round draft pick in exchange for the Patriots' second-round selection.
A former second-round draft pick himself, Ealy played three seasons with the Panthers and compiled 14 sacks and six forced fumbles in 47 regular-season games. The 25 year old had the best game of his career in the Panthers' Super Bowl 50 loss against the Denver Broncos, in which he recorded three sacks, a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and an interception.

As executive vice president of Total Quality Engineering, Philip Calhoun draws on a diverse educational background, which includes a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics, and a master’s degree in finance from New York University. Charitably active, Philip Calhoun supports JDRF, formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which will hold its biennial Children’s Congress from July 24 to 26, 2017, in Washington, DC.
The origins of the JDRF Children’s Congress can be traced back to Tommy Solo, a 9-year-old boy from Massachusetts who wondered why children couldn’t go to Washington, DC, and explain to lawmakers their experience with having type 1 diabetes (T1D) and stress the importance of finding a cure. His mother and other JDRF volunteers also wondered why, and only one year later, in 1999, the JDRF organized its first Children’s Congress.
Celebrating its 10th iteration this July, JDRF Children’s Congress invites over 150 children with T1D from all 50 states and Washington, DC. These young delegates, ranging in age from 4 to 17, hold in-person meetings with members of Congress, during which they illustrate for their representatives the challenges caused by T1D and advocate for continued research. Such efforts have been vital in procuring federal funding.
For more information about the event, or to make a tax-deductible donation to JDRF, please visit JDRF.org

How to Drive a Golf Ball
As executive vice president of Total Quality Engineering, Philip Calhoun oversees the development of operation methodologies as executive vice president. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Philip Calhoun pursues an interest in the game of golf.
One of the most important skills in golf is the driving of the ball. Distance is crucial, yet it is ineffective to place too much strength behind the shot. Instead of giving the ball more distance, an excess of force can cause the ball to curve off path.
Instead of rushing into the drive, the golfer should prepare carefully by placing the inside of the lead foot in line with the ball. The ball should be a bit farther away from the body as compared to other shots, as the goal is to allow the driver to come in contact with the ball on the upswing.
The backswing should be deliberate but long. The shoulders turn and weight transfers to the front foot as the hips rotate toward the target. The club then naturally scoops the ball off of the tee without a lifting motion from the golfer.

The American Youth Basketball Tour's 60/40 Philosophy

The executive vice president of Total Quality Engineering in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Philip Calhoun builds upon nearly two decades of experience in manufacturing operations with corporations like Frito Lay/Pepsico and the Ford Motor Company. Outside of the professional arena, Philip Calhoun has coached Team Powerstroke to three national championships on the American Youth Basketball Tour (AYBT).
A youth athletic organization, the AYBT supports more than a thousand boys and girls basketball teams across the nation. It ensures that all members of these teams get the chance to improve through its 60/40 philosophy, which dictates that each healthy and eligible player on each team roster will play in each game, occupying the court for between 40 and 60 percent of the total playing time.
AYBT developed this philosophy with the understanding that players can’t get better if they don’t play. In addition to allowing players to improve their personal skills, the philosophy gives player the opportunity to learn and participate in complicated team dynamics. To meet the 60/40 goal, all AYBT coaches must rotate players accordingly.
